About the role: Technical support

The Technician will support the other technicians in the energy department with on-site assessment of batteries and inverters and resolving any issues found. You will ensure all wiring is assembled to industry standards and complies with safety regulation, support engineers in attending to all day-to-day technical inquiries within the branch, and ensure that all sales staff and customer technical tickets are serviced and closed. You will be required to wire light fittings, assess faulty lights and rewire, on-site fault finding and rectification of lights and related products. Further you will also be required to deliver and collect stock from various areas

Role responsibilities:

  • Attend to customer technical support requests (received electronically or telephonically)
  • Attend site in local, national, and potentially international locations to:
    • assist in commissioning new systems
    • assist in the diagnosis of faulty equipment
    • troubleshoot any other issues
  • Assist senior support engineers in their support cases
  • Assist sales consultants with technical inquiries around our products and systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting faulty equipment
  • Diagnose warranty claims
  • Liaise with factories and suppliers on technical issues
  • Regularly attend supplier training as designated
  • Work closely with the other tech support staff around the country to:
    • Collaborate on improving systems
    • Help resolve issues in other areas where skills can be shared for the common good
    • Investigate and document potential serial issues
    • Meet regularly to discuss tech support issues
    • Document/record activities within the company CRM
  • Assistance in Installation: Assemble electrical wiring systems in lighting fixtures and related products according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Maintenance and Repair Support: Assist in the routine maintenance and repair of wiring systems of existing lighting products.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Help test and troubleshoot wiring systems in lighting fixtures to identify and correct issues, using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all wiring assemblies, maintenance, and repairs. Assist in documenting any changes made to wiring systems.
  • Compliance: Ensure all wiring work complies with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations specific to lighting products.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with installers, technicians, engineers, electricians, and other teams to complete projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Learning and Development: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance technical skills and knowledge related to lighting manufacturing.
  • Ensure correct paperwork goes with goods for delivery / collections
  • Checking of stock to ensure it is correct before delivery / collection

Ad hoc duties as required in the stores

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Experience:

  • At Minimum a Matric/NQF4 equivalent plus one or more of the following:
  • Technical support background and experience of at least 1-2 yrs in electrical/power and critical reserve power environment e.g. UPS, hybrid inverters etc
  • Driver's license and own vehicle
