Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager

Purpose of the Role

The O&M Manager is responsible for managing and driving the performance of the service level agreements (SLA) with our customers, ensuring its alignment with strategic goals, financial sustainability, and operational excellence. This includes overseeing the SLA P&L, optimising resources, ensuring contractual compliance and HSE compliance, and fostering a high-performance team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Financial Management

1. Manage and report on the SLA Profit and Loss (P&L) performance.

2. Maximise revenue through billing compliance.

3. Align the strategic direction of the Rubicon Operations Centre (ROC) with the SLA’s. Set out measurable KPIs for the team.

4. Optimise operational expenses (OPEX) to ensure cost efficiency

5. Review and understand the opportunities and risk of SLA’s

Operational Excellence

1. Monitor and report on KPIs, including turnaround times, ticket resolution rates, and ticket closure statistics.

2. Create and implement operating procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance

3. Report on SLA performance metrics.

4. Manage resources to meet operational demands and customer expectations.

5. O&M management of SLA’s

Team Development & Leadership

1. Develop and lead a high-performing team through coaching, training, and performance management.

2. Drive succession planning and career development for team members.

3. Develop individual KPI’s for the team to manager and drive performance.

Stakeholder Engagement

1. Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless service delivery and operational alignment.

2. Strategically engage with vendors to establish, review, and enhance SLA performance.

3. Review and report on SLA and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contract compliance.

Compliance & Risk Management

1. Ensure SLA compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.

2. Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with SLA’s and customer interactions.

3. Implement and monitor safety protocols and ensure adherence within the ROC team and contractors.

  • Educational Requirements:
    • At minimum, a Matric/NQF4 equivalent
    • Engineering qualification to provide technical expertise in renewable energy solutions
    • Project Management Certificate or Diploma
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience of at least 2-3 years as a Contracts Manager or External Sales Consultant within the renewable energy or sustainable technology industry
    • Strong understanding of electrical systems, solar energy solutions, and related technologies.
    • Understanding of sales in the renewable energy sector.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Good technical knowledge of renewable energy products, including solar panels, inverters, batteries, and energy storage systems.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients and stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office tools.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Proven contract drafting and negotiation skills with a focus on price, delivery, quality, and performance metrics

  • Additional Requirements:
    • Own vehicle and valid driver’s license are essential for travel to client meetings, installations, and events.
    • Ability to travel regularly to meet with clients and conduct site assessments.
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
